David Marlett is chair of the Department of Finance, Banking and Insuranc
e at Appalachian State University and an associate fellow of the R Street Institute.
David is editor of the CPCU eJournal and former director of the Brantley Risk and Insurance Center. He has taught risk management and insurance at Nanjing University, Old Dominion University and Florida State University and has published more than 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
He was appointed by the North Carolina State Assembly to the Joint Select Study Committee on Potential Impact of Major Hurricane on the Insurance Industry in North Carolina. He also serves as an affiliated senior scholar with the Mercatus Center at George Mason University.
A former commercial property and casualty insurance lines underwriter for United States Fidelity and Guaranty in Tampa, Fla., David received his doctorate in risk management and insurance from Florida State University in 1997.
