WonkComms Breakfast Club: Think Tank Comms on a Budget

Featuring

Anna Pederson, Digital Communications Officer, CNAS

William Gray, Director of Communications, R Street Institute

Moderator: John Schwartz, CEO, Soapbox

Overview

WonkComms Breakfast Clubs around the world have often resounded to the complaints of cash-strapped communicators. But, within our community, there are many parsimonious press officers and canny comms directors who achieve miracles on meagre budgets. This Breakfast Club celebrates them and examines the tools and strategies they use to consistently punch above their financial weight.

What are the low-cost tools that comms staff can use to generate cool and compelling content? How can you repurpose that content quickly and cheaply to make your organisation look bigger than it really is? How can you target a limited advertising budget for maximum results? On a more strategic level, how can you leverage great media relations and network effects to get the maximum bang for your communications buck?

We want to talk about your tips and tricks for effective comms when money is tight but the need for impact is high.

Our conversation will be kickstarted by two of the most frugal thinktankers in America: Anna Pederson is Digital Communications Officer at CNAS, where she manages the digital footprint of the center, including social media, email, website content, and general strategic communication support; William Gray is Director of Communications at the R Street Institute where he manages their growing communications team, including the public relations, digital, and events units.

Coffee, croissants and comms – what could be a better start to your morning?
