About Monty

Monty Kosma is the co-founder and president of DataJoint, an organization that strives to transform the productivity and reliability of scientific research. Inspired as a young physicist by his encounters with Richard Feynman, Monty has led a life of insatiable curiosity, ranging across quantum physics, electromagnetics, neuroscience, supercomputing, artificial intelligence, influence and reputation networks, and industrial organization. As a McKinsey consultant, Monty specialized in Lean operations engineering. As a founder and technologist, Monty has designed and built market-based solutions in areas as diverse as scientific software, reputation data, independent film, upstream oil and gas, and technologies to reduce gun violence. Somehow, he also found a spare decade to practice antitrust and constitutional law in the D.C. offices of Jones Day and Gibson Dunn, where he worked closely with the late Ted Olson. He remains a member of the D.C. and Supreme Court bars.

He also happens to be a Black Rock Ranger, a father/demi-father to nine kids, an expert on the constitutional issues arising during the 1801 War with Tripoli, and a co-founder of The Green Bag 2d: An Entertaining Journal of Law. He has a JD from The University of Chicago Law School and a bachelor’s degree in physics from Harvey Mudd College.
